Our Boston Magazine sponsored Passport to Design Sweepstakes and Seminar Series wrapped up in April with a meet and greet of the winner, Scott Goodby. Scott was introduced to each of the Passport to Design partners at the Landry and Arcari showroom in Salem. He left with a home make-over grand prize package that included a combination of $20,000 worth of gift certificates valid at each of the five showrooms. We look forward to helping Scott make his design selections and sincerely thank all the guests who visited our showrooms during the six month promotion period. It was a real pleasure to provide learning opportunities through our seminar series and to get to know the visitors who stopped by and got their passports stamped!

The final seminar in the Passport to Design series was held on March 14th at the Salem location of Landry & Arcari. Five stations were set up to inform guests on the best ways to choose and incorporate fine carpets into a design plan. The art of designing a custom carpet was demystified, while the ins and outs of the rug weaving process were explained.

Experts at rug restoration were also on hand to demonstrate their techniques on how they bring a cherished heirloom back to life – almost any rug disaster can be fixed, or a carpet can be modified to appear as good as new.

Three guests went home with free 2 ft. x 3 ft. hand-woven carpets after playing “Where’s Wooldo?” and finding a set of dolls that were tucked within the showroom displays.

The folks at Landry & Arcari are a wealth of knowledge when it comes to Oriental rugs and carpeting. Guests were encouraged to ask questions and to come back to explore the vast offerings at their two showroom locations (Salem and Boston).

The winner of the $20,000 Home Makeover Sweepstakes will be announced soon by Boston Magazine. Stay tuned!! Thank you to all of our guests who have joined us for the seminar series and who have visited our showrooms. We have all enjoyed your company and look forward to helping you with future design projects!

January 2013: Lucia Lighting

Lucia Lighting and Design has room after room of dazzling

On January 9th, Lucia Lighting and Design located in a 3-story restored Victorian mansion in Lynn hosted the third event in our Passport to Design series. Unfortunately, their guest speaker was unable to make it that evening to discuss new trends in lighting, but the Lucia team made up for it by encouraging the attendees to use the time to network with one another or to seek out a Lucia lighting specialist to have their questions answered one-on-one. The rooms sparkled with lively conversation while guests took in the many lighting options on display.

Lucy Dearborn has a number of lighting videos online that share tips on lighting design and selection. View them here.

December 2012: Circle Furniture

On December 7th, Circle Furniture in Cambridge hosted the second seminar in our Passport to Design series. Their 2013 trend report on fabrics shared industry insight on what’s hot and what’s not. We particularly liked the Sunset Boulevard palette that they presented:

“Decidedly glamorous and graphically inspired, Sunset Boulevard is clean and crisp with a closely edited color palette. Deep, mid-tone shades of green – from emerald to Kelly – dominate, along with bright, sunny yellows. Patterns such as chevron, Greek key, grillwork, grid and gate designs, all pop against accents of black or white.” – from Circle Furniture Spring 2013 Color Trends
